Director in Short Comedy Category March 23, 2000; Los Angeles - Segueing her 20 year television and theater career into feature film directing, Judy Chaikin was awarded, Friday evening, March 17th, "Best Director" in the comedy short category for her romantic-comedy "Cotillion 65" at last weeks (March 10-16) 6th Annual Santa Clarita International Film Festival (SCIFF), the world's only festival dedicated to quality family entertainment. "Cotillion 65" marks Chaikins directorial debut into feature films after twodecades of writing, directing and producing for theater and television. Chaikin, an Emmy nominee for her documentary "Legacy of the Hollywood Blacklist", also co-wrote the short with screenwriter Gregory Burns. SCIFFs Lifetime Achievement Award that evening went to great cinema legend Cliff Robertson, and their Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Animation went to Charles Schultz and highly acclaimed "Peanuts" animator Bill Melendez. "Cotillion 65" is a romantic comedy based on a 13 year-old boys experience while enrolled in the Cotillion dance and manners classes popular in the late 60s. Talented newcomer, Guy Lewis, plays the male lead, George Anderson. Lewis Anderson falls in love with his dance teacher, Miss Tiffany, portrayed by Kate Linder aka Esther Valentine of TV soaps popular "The Young and the Restless" and the story follows his romantic fantasy as he steps into adulthood. Chaikins entry into directing came with her stage production of "Womanspeak" starring Jane Fonda followed years later by winning Billboards Best New Music Video Director, two Cine Golden Eagles, and first place at the American Educational Film and Television Awards for her short dramatic film, "Aint I A Woman?" "Cotillion 65" also screened at The Santa Monica Film Festival in February followed by The Santa Barbara and Sedona Film Festivals in March. # # #

Direct Cinema will be handling the non-theatrical distribution of the 2000 Academy Award short film THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA. Among the many strong hitters Wednesday evening at the 31st Annual Nashville Independent Film Festival June 7th screens the newcomer "Cotillion 65". The five-day event, ending on June 11th , showcases the best in animation, short subject, and feature film from over 275 films and videos. Between 10,000 and 15,000 people are expected to attend the festival. "Under Hellgate Bridge", directed by Emmy Award-winning director Michael Sergio, is the headliner for tonights line-up. "Hellgate" stars "The Sopranos" Dominic Chianese and Vincent Pastore.
